SM, Chrome, and HTML editing

Details

If you use Google's Chrome browser with SquirrelMail, you may have noticed that you aren't given the option to compose new messages or replies in HTML (also known as "rich text").  So, you can't do any kind of formatting other than plain text.  The situation happens no matter what your SM option settings are for HTML composition.

The Return of Hastymail2

Details

Those of you who have been using the service for at least a couple of years might recall that we used to have another webmail program called Hastymail2.  Well, it's back!  You can connect to Hastymail2 via links from the AcceptIO.com web site or directly via https://www.acceptio.com/hm2.  We did not write Hastymail2; we merely installed and configured a local copy.  Hastymail2 is open source, and the official web site for it is http://www.hastymail.org (they won't know anything about AcceptIO or our local installation).

If you have questions about the local installation of Hastymail2, please contact AcceptIO support.

Spam Numbers Way Up (updated)

Details

If you think you are seeing more spam messages recently (early November 2011), you are probably not imagining it. AcceptIO server statistics show that we have been processing about twice as much email most days since mid-October compared to the number we normally handle. We can tell from our own mailboxes that most of the increase is from spam.

If too much spam is making it to your inbox, you might like to consider tuning your settings related to spam scoring. You can read about in the article Spam Scoring and Actions.

UPDATE:  As of about the end of November 2011, spam numbers have returned to previous levels.  Our suspicion is that some major botnet has been taken down, but we don't have anything specific to point to.
